Car Seat Safety @ Woodfall Primary School

The Junior Safety Officers at St. Woodfall Primary School will be out and about this week measuring pupils to see if they still need a car seat whilst travelling in a vehicle.

The children may come home with an 🟠 orange or 🔵 blue sticker. This sticker advises you if they should still be using some form of car seat or are now tall enough to just be using a standard seat belt.

🤔 Did you know you have to use a car seat if you are under 12 years of age or under 135cm tall?

🟠 Children have been given an orange sticker if they are under 135cms tall and a 🔵 blue sticker if they are tall enough for parents to consider just using the adult seat belts.

‼️ However, if your child has been given a blue sticker and they don’t meet the below it is still safer to continue using a car seat of some kind:

▪️ Can they sit with their back flat against the vehicle seat back.
▪️ Do their knees bend over the edge of the seat.
▪️ Are their feet on the floor.
▪️ The lap part of the belt is on their hips, not their abdomen.
▪️ The shoulder belt runs fromtheir hip across their chest and over their shoulder.
