Dear Neighbourhood Watch Co-ordinator, Did you see the recent Cheshire Alert message sent by the Crime prevention team? The message was in relation to theft of ‘Family Gold’ and measures that can be taken to protect yourself. Please find a summary below and disseminate to neighbours, friends and family where possible. Storage Consider using a safety deposit box. Thieves will check hiding places such as: behind a bath panels, loft and under floor boards. If valuables are at home, use a safe to store and anchor the safe to a secure surface. Store items separately. Home security Consider security of doors and windows and use accredited trades people. Monitored alarms, CCTV and lighting are all good security measures to offer a layered approach. Always use reputable tradespeople as trades can often be used as a cover to gain entry to your home. Record and register valuables Take photographs of all jewellery on a plain background, with a ruler.Register valuables for free on www.immobilise.comConsider forensic property marking for all valuables.Ensure adequate insurance for home and valuables.Communication Social media posts can assist an offender in selecting a target, be aware of what you post!Neighbourhood Watch groups can be a good information sharing platform.Be mindful of identifying your household with religious symbols. These can be an indicator for offenders that there may be gold within the house.Remain vigilant ad report suspicious activity on 101 or call 999 in an emergency, if there is a crime in progress or you feel in immediate danger. Many thanks, |
